I am a quote person. I have notes all around my house and on my phone as well as several Pinterest boards devoted strictly to fabulous quotes that I want to remember. Often there is something about a quote that speaks to me directly at a certain relatable time. I especially love many quotes by Maya Angelou. Her words are inspiring and encouraging and make me want to not only be a better person but live a life of purpose. One quote of hers that really gets to me and makes my mind wander is the one that says, “be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.”
As my mind drifts, I think about a cloudy sky. Perhaps the sky is a beautiful blue and the clouds so fluffy they seem as though you could sink into their softness. The sun is warm on your skin and your life is filled with contentment and bliss. Or maybe the sky is gray, and the clouds are filled with more darkness than they can rightfully hold. Danger may lurk, the air might be cold and brisk and a sense of sadness or even depression surrounds you. No matter which way you view your cloud-filled sky, imagine someone approaching your cloud with the colors of the rainbow. Imagine taking the colors, one by one and embracing each one, piece by piece, color by color from beginning to end. Their colors always make you smile.
Picture your day, your life or even that moment, filled with glorious hues and an arch of hope. Notice the beam of sunshine on the other side that casts this fabulous arrangement of color. How wonderful the knowledge that it takes both sunshine and rain to make that glorious arch. It’s as if the sun and the rain fell in love and created the most majestic miracle ever to be seen.
To be a rainbow in someone’s cloud, whether blue skies or gray means to shine in their life, to be a glorious presence they cannot overlook.
As such, to do as Maya declared in her quote, be a rainbow in someone’s cloud allows us to shine our beauty through the windows of our lives and suddenly everything seems magical, hopeful to everyone around us.
When it seems like the sun is nowhere to be found, a rainbow tells us otherwise. Someone is strategically put into our lives to show us the sun, the colors, the magnitude of our very being.
Girl, its time to focus on the sparkle and be a rainbow in someone’s cloud. Reach out, reach up, be a blessing to someone. Show your love, your colors, your gift with the same strength and humility as the rainbow. Reminding them they can’t see the rainbow if they don’t look up. Ensure them that no matter where they came from, where they are going, that their journey through life is vibrant and full of color. Demonstrate to them what it’s like to count rainbows instead of thunderstorms, and to embrace the rain. For at the end of every rainbow has a pot of gold, a glimmer of hope and inside dreams are waiting to come true.
